Literacy and Educational Materials
Literacy and Education Materials in the SIL context covers a broad range of local language materials. To name a few, these may include:
- basic literacy instruction
- alphabet charts
- community newssheet
- primers and instructional aids
- teaching and training guides
- health information
- community development topics
(e.g., beekeeping, income generation, leadership, agriculture, repair manuals, etc.) - various shellbooks
- how-to-do-it books
- pedagogical grammars
- local and cultural literature
In addition, transition materials offer a bridge, either from the local language to the national language, which provides access to knowledge offered by that larger body of literature; or from the national language to the local language, which contributes to culture and language preservation.
