Multilingual Education Programs
A Resource and an Opportunity
Multilingualism is increasing as the standard of the global community and in local communities alike. Emerging from this trend is a strong mandate for multilingual education (MLEd) that includes ethnic-minority languages. Worldwide, as high level policy- or decision-makers and local educators respond to the mandate, they will need to promote, develop, and implement more suitable models for MLEd, ones which will accommodate the local languages. In order to put those models into practice successfully, resources and opportunities for the community of practice are essential. The following are two such examples:
- Advocacy Kit for Promoting Multilingual Education: Including the Excluded—an introductory, overview resource
- The 2nd International Conference on Language Development, Language Revitalization, and Multilingual Education in Ethnolinguistic Communities held 1-3 July, 2008.
