Literacy is the best remedy—International Literacy Day 2008

SIL International celebrates the annual United Nations-declared International Literacy Day. This year's theme highlights the clear link between health and literacy—improved health results when life-changing information is available to a community in a language they know best.


Language and globalization conference

The interaction of language and globalization were in focus at a conference sponsored by UNESCO and the United Nations University in Tokyo. An SIL paper emphasized the subsidiary benefits of education in the local language.
